About the Suicide Prevention Helpline

Source-CID. There is a large variation in suicide rates in different parts of India and states and cities with rapid social change appearing to be associated with higher rates .The psychological, social and financial impact of suicide on the family and the society is immeasurable.

Research shows that most of the suicidal deaths are preventable if intervened at the right time. A majority of suicidal people communicates their suicidal thoughts and intentions. They often send out signals and make statements about “wanting to die”, “feeling useless”, and so on. All those pleas for help must not be ignored. Whatever the problems, the feelings and thoughts of the suicidal person tend to be the same all round the world. Though most of those who commit suicide have a mental disorder, a majority of them do not see a mental health professional. As the suicidal death is preventable--if intervened rightly--Suicide helpdesk has been initiated.
